"You will surely die"
It interesting that God forbid them from eating only from the Tree of Wisdom and that the penalty would be that "you will surely die." They were, by extension allowed to eat from the tree of life until they ate of the tree of wisdom. Although we understand the meaning as being about the fall of our mortal souls this also implies that man was immortal prior to eating the fruit of wisdom and that once banished and no longer permitted to eat of the tree of life man became mortal. In essence..... you will surely die.
