1 Corinthians 1:1-17
1 Corinthians 1:2, 1 Corinthians 1:4-8, 1 Corinthians 1:9-13, 1 Corinthians 1:14, 1 Corinthians 1:15 and 1 Corinthians 12:1
Unity
Note that Paul uses this second verse as a way to touch on unity. The message say it this way " send this letter to you in God's church at Corinth, believers cleaned up by Jesus and set apart for a God-filled life. I include in my greeting all who call out to Jesus, wherever they live. He's their Master as well as ours!" After Paul re-affirms spiritual giftedness he gets right back to the point as it were in verse 9-10 that is unity. For the first time in verse 11 we see meat and bones come on to this issue, "Chloe's household" took it upon themselves to mention the quarrels and Paul is now going to address the issue. (see following)

As we see later in this text (Chapter 12) Paul is reaffirming spiritual giftedness. Apparently it is so important for Paul to make his point that he cant let it be alone until he comes to it in proper time as it were. He felt that it was worth highlighting right after putting the the Church it self in context of reality.
Following
I think this next section of the text has particular importance for the 21st Century church. More than most other recent generations I think we gravitate to celebrity and consumerism theology easier. It creates a disjointed thing that in so many ways is more about personalities in the church. Verse 12 starts this thread people were picking personalites to follow rather than Christ.
It is at this point I must ponder this. If I believe that one preacher is good while another doesn't suite my taste. And I fail to take into account whether or not the "good preacher" is theologically sound I place myself in some very deep water. If I stop following Christ for a human personality I could easily become lost at sea or become a follower of that Christian. At the same time if the "bad preacher" were to have brilliant insight into what the bible says but he just happened to not suit my taste I could be missing out. I think this passage could shut down most of the bad theology that is taught today if the church at large would consider it.
Christ Divided
Starting in verse 13 Paul starts addressing the personality dispute. Paul as Mike Erre said recently comes to verse 14 and has something of a senior moment forgetting who he has baptized however this could also send a message to those that were baptized by him that they were not nearly as high on his mark as he is on theirs. Verse 15 makes the major point of it, "no one can say that you were baptized into my name."
