Many view Paul's opening comments as unique to himself. Because Paul is an apostle, we often reason, he was set apart for the Gospel of God. This may be the case. Paul may very well be referencing his unique calling as an Apostle of Jesus Christ.

But one thing is for sure: If Paul was set apart to bring the Gospel, then we who receive it are set apart to live it. It's not as though Paul is called to live a devout life and we are called to live a moderate one. If we are followers of Jesus, we are called to be devout. We are set apart for the Gospel.

Note Paul's next few comments on the implications of his calling: He has received his Apostleship to "bring about the obedience of faith...among the nations." Also, we are "called to be saints."

We are not subtly set apart. We also bear the weight of the kingdom.
