Blessed be the Poor - Tim Keller sermon
I have often heard pastors say that we are obligated to serve the poor, as it is a given, but not really flesh it out or necessarily live it out. I have felt this compulsion -- largely by the influence of my wonderful wife -- but haven't felt that its draw was purely in line with the other side of my faith that had developed. It almost felt like two strains. I could say, 'The gospel is amazing and has changed my life, therefore I want to share that undeserved mercy with others to show the gospel to them' and that would guide my serving, but it felt less than airtight. It did feel like an option, like one expression of many possible expressions of faith. Keller's sermon plunks poverty right in the center of our faith and demonstrates, conclusively, how all those connections work. I'm not going to give a full summary here, but I found it quite compelling and actually listened to the sermon a second time with my wife. Becky's views have long been secure in this way and have instructed her career to love the poor. I am grateful to feel more in-sync with her through this message. I highly recommend this sermon...
