I am by no means a Bible scholar, but as i am devoting myself to reading God's word again and again, i am starting to notice some developing themes. The passages tagged in this entry are the capstone of the first 10 chapters of the book of Hebrews. As you read for yourself, you will find that the writer fully develops God's plan to use the old system (sacrifical law) as a shadow of the things to come (attonement through Jesus Christ). By drawing out the purposes of the animal blood sacrifices, the curtain which separates the Holy of Holy's, and the priests who offer those sacrifices for sins, we find that they were mere shadows of the things to come.
The blood of Jesus was not only sufficient for the sin of one man, but for all mankind, for all time! And the curtain, which tore from top to bottom when Jesus died shows us that His broken body now provides a way for man to have direct access with God. And no longer are we dependent upon a priest who is not without sin to offer sacrifices for us - Jesus is our great high priest, sinless and able to forgive our sins once and for all.
This book takes some time to process and digest, but understanding the significance of these items brings a whole new depth of understanding to our Christianese terms, like sin, attonement, propeciation, sacrifice, blood, etc. Take the time to read God's word. the Process is life changing.
