Mark 2:18 ASV, Mark 2:19-20 ASV, Mark 2:21 ASV and Mark 2:22 ASV

Nothing strikes me more firmly in this short exchange between Jesus and the religious leaders, than his desire to make things simple for people who were coming to faith. (1) Firstly, Jesus goes to the people, rather than expecting them to come to him. (2) Secondly, the only commitment he asks from the disciples is a commitment to follow him. (3) Thirdly, the disciplines he expects the disciples to follow, he expects them to grow into, as they mature.

This is, I think, one of the biggest problems Jesus had against the religious leaders of the day. They made it so difficult for people to become Jewish...that the people didn't even try. You either grew up in the Jewish way of life, or you weren't Jewish.
