1 Chron. 17:11-13 "I will establish his throne forever"
I just love this promise from God. First, He is making a promise to David, His chosen king for Israel in that moment, that one of his own sons will succeed him. But second, God is also making a promise about His son, that Jesus would one day come and God declares, "I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him..."
The other portion that really gets me is how God is communicating to David that Solomon is the one who will build the Temple, but really God is also saying that Jesus will build God's Temple by making a way for God to live inside us. 1 Cor. 6:19-20 says, "19Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." God LIVES IN US! And this passage while promising David and Solomon will build his temple is also showing us how Jesus will make a way for us to be God's temple as well. He is so awesome!
This passage just blows my socks off! 1000 years before Jesus and already God is promising his coming. Jesus was never an emergency rescue plan, He was the plan! God's plans are never foiled or overthrown. His love is everlasting and nothing can spoil His plans!
