Family Rules
Speaker: Senior Pastor John Neufeld, Willingdon Church (Burnaby, BC, Canada)
Date: 1/25/2009
It’s impossible to find a family that has no rules. Whether it is a functioning or a non-functioning home, rules establish a family. Perhaps the most fundamental rule of family is that family looks out for each other. The church of Jesus Christ is a family, and like any other family, it too has rules. But these rules have a divine purpose – a purpose that cares for one another, but also reaches the lost.
A. Rules that govern our interaction with each other
1. Be clear about direction and leadership
2. Settle disputes through instruction, not power
3. Give honor to the aged
4. Treat one another with biblical love
B. Rules that govern our care for those in need
1. Every believer has a God ordained obligation to their aged parents
2. Churches must determine who qualifies for assistance
3. Nothing must deter individual responsibility
4. Nothing must deter the primary value of family
