Luke 1:1-4 ASV

Luke reveals the motive of his writing to his addressee, Theophilus. he is further equipping Theophilus in his young faith with an "orderly account" of the story of Christ. What an beautiful array of Gospel stories we have to begin our New Testament! Matthew writes to Jews to show how Christ prophetically fulfills the Scriptures. Mark writes to predominantly Gentile Christians, reminding them that Christ suffered in the same way they suffer for their faith. And John, the "odd man out," who is not one of the synoptic Gospel writers, deviates almost completely and supplies us with a Gospel focused on the Great Commandment, LOVE, and how the Holy Spirit was given to help us walk it out. Wow. Prophetic fulfillment. Comfort in sufferings. An accurate retelling. And love by the Holy Spirit. This is what church should be all about. Christ's prophetic fulfillment. His comfort in sufferings. A clearly articulated Gospel message, and love by the Power of the Holy Spirit.
