1 Samuel 16:7 ASV and 1 Samuel 16:14 ASV

This passage played a significant role when I was on the search team for our pastor last year. Samuel is a remarkable guy. Such wisdom, discernment and willingness to wait for the Lord's voice. When appointing the next king he looked at Jesse's son Eliab and thought "Surely the Lord's anointed is before [me]". He went through 7 sons and came to the end asking "is there one more?" David is then revealed to him and anointed King.
Surely the Lord looks at the heart when we are looking at outward appearance. What a great reminder to consider peoples heart before making a judgment call on them.
It's interesting to me that the Lord allowed a harmful spirit or evil spirit to torment Saul, and that this spirit was "from the Lord". Saul's choices forced the Spirit of the Lord to depart from Saul. David came and was able to comfort him... How Ironic that he would become the next king. David had a lot going for him. Good looks, intelligence, musical ability, a warm personality. At this point, Saul isn't threatened by David. He is "refreshed and was well".
