Pray in Stillness and Silence
The verses of Matthew 6:5-15 contains the essence of our personal prayer with the Lord. It is about praying in private, silence, stillness and isolation. Our call to act as Disciples of Christ is captured in the “Lord’s Prayer”. This is my interpretation of this amazing prayer.
“Our Father, Who art in Heaven,”
The prayer is based on the belief that a part of heaven and the grace of God exist in all men. It is part of our inner being and soul, however it is buried deep under layers and layers of spiritual development. At the core is an opportunity for Devine Union with the Lord. This spiritual journey begins by welcoming the presence of the Lord. Through a contemplative approach we can experience the presence of God through stillness and silence.
“Hallowed be thy name, Thy Kingdom come,”
As Disciples of Christ he will show us to our inner being where we can share with him the kingdom of heaven. When we honor the sacred name of the Lord and welcome him into our presence the mystery and joy of heaven is possible to each of us while living on Earth. The true Disciples of Christ get to experience both the mystical indwelling of heaven and the physical world of Earth.
“Thy WILL be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven, ”
It is as Disciples of Christ and through our actions of stewardship that we will prosper and show our faithfulness. As told in the Parable of the Talents the Lord will initially provide us a few small challenges to determine how we perform his WILL on Earth. His WILL is being performed through us as Disciples of Christ. The Earth is now filled with many of his Disciples showing this stewardship. Many more are coming aboard. As our numbers multiply as Disciples of Christ the Earth will become “A World Transformed with Gifts Overflowing”.
“Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.”
The Lord will provide us daily guidance, strength, courage and wisdom as we pray in stillness and welcome the presence of the Lord. As Disciples of Christ we ask for his forgiveness in daily prayer, and we must also forgive those who trespass against us in our daily life.
“Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
The Earth is entering a period of historical transformation BUT is faced with tremendous challenges that must be overcome. We are confronting a world filled with ego, greed, jealousy, discrimination, laziness, selfishness, irresponsibility, control, hatred, and war. Expect to be confronted with criticism, ridicule, and humiliation from the ego’s of evil that resides in human beings. This requires having faith that the Lord will lead us away from the temptations of evil.
Our life journey is met with many situations that require our judgment, talents, treasures, and moral character. Following in Christ’s footsteps we need to have traits of love, mercy, frugality, humility, forgiveness, empathy, and compassion. Each of us is unique in the ability we possess. Our talents are diverse, unique, and special. The Lord provides us with more spiritual essence as we journey toward the goal of Devine Union.
Our reward for praying in secret as good and faithful Disciples of Christ is having the Lord welcome us to share his happiness in the kingdom of heaven while we are human beings on Earth.
