Paul is very clear that salvation is not a matter of answering an altar call or merely praying a prayer. We must 1) receive it, 2) stand in it, and 3) hold fast to it. These aren't necessarily sequential steps, I assume, for they all mean the same thing. We must devote ourselves to the Gospel. We must meditate on it. We must recall it throughout each day. We must immerse ourselves in it. And IF we do this, we will continue to be saved. (Note the tense of the beginning of verse 2: "by which you are BEING saved.")
