John 15:5-6 ASV

John 15:5 "I am the vine,. you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing."

Jesus here uses an example that, 2000 years ago made perfect sense, because everyone drank a certain type of wine, because they didn't know how to purify water (Also, the wine was a lot weaker than wine nowadays) This may not be immediately obvious to us as teens who don't work in the vineyards, but that just means we need to think a little harder.

Think of the "vine" as a tree. Where do the branches receive their nutrients? From the tree! If there was no tree, all the branches would be dead, heck, they wouldn't even exist! Jesus is trying to show us how EXTREMELY dependent we are on Him. If we only abide in Him (obey Him, follow Him), and allow Him to abide in us (reside in us, guide us) we will produce fruit! However if we don't, we will not be able to do anything, we will "be cast out and wither" (v. 6)

You decide: Bear fruit in Him, or wither away from Him.
