new car smell
2 Cor 5:17 is quite possibly one of my favorite verses- He made us new! THANK YOU!!! And the good stuff continues as you keep reading...It's just overwhelming- He no longer counts sin against us, He looks at us completely differently, we become friends, we're made right, sin is gone, the old is gone, the new has come. I could run around my house right now. I've read this tons of times and it still feels new in this moment. Jesus, I want to STAY thankful for what You did for me. If ever this starts "feeling old," remind me that I've been made new! I remember getting my Jetta and being so excited- a brand new car. I swore to never eat in it, never make a mess and I soooooo wanted to never lose the new car smell. But I got lazy. I spilled Diet Coke on a number of occasions. I took it on roadtrips and it was roughed up. Kids rode in my card and...well, you knwo how that goes. By the time I sold it, it felt so old. We got it detailed to sell it and when the car was returned to us before the final sale, somehow, that guy made it smell new again. It made me want to keep the dang car! I had no room for car seats and stuff but the smell was convincing enough. It fades too quickly but it's the best thing about a new car. What Jesus did- infinitely better and more intense than new car smell. But how quickly excitement fades. How easy to lose passion. How desperately we need to be reminded of what He did and stay grateful. I want this to always feel new to me.
