Consider how this passage relates to Jesus' reference to "living water".

Why do you think the Jews of the Old Testament and the Jews of the John's Gospel missed out on the living water offered by Christ?
- the forgot the good things the Lord had done for them (V3)
- They did not ask, "Where is the LORD..." (V6). They stopped asking God.
- God gave them abundance and they forgot him (v7)
- The church leaders (priests) did not know God (v8)
- The church evangelists (prophets) started following worthless idols (v8)

God's people committed two sins:
1. The forsook Him, the spring of living water
2. The replaced Him by their own efforts and means
