As some Bible scholars interpret the fig tree as one which symbolizes the chosen nation, Israel, I also believe that the cursed fig tree presents a metaphor of a child of God not bearing "fruit". Jesus hoped every one of His children to bear good "fruit"... can be fruit of the Holy Spirit, or spiritual fruits (discipling / evangelizing), fruit of fulfilling our destiny and purpose in life, etc. And when God sees that we don't produce fruit, he becomes VERY disappointed. That's what I don't want to happen.
