I saw this is a new, simpler light this morning and thought I would simply record my thoughts regarding it. First, the idea of taking up "the whole armor of God SO THAT you may be able to withstand in the evil day" (emphasis added) struck me as reason enough to pay close attention to these verses. That we are living in evil days is unquestionable. Perhaps not THE evil day, but evil enough to be sure. So, if I'm going to stand, I need the armor. Here's what I saw most clearly. 1) The belt of truth--you've got to KNOW it. 2) the breastplate of righteousness--you've got to LIVE it. 3) shoes...the gospel of peace--you've got to SHARE it (spread it). 4) the shield of faith--you've got to BELIEVE it, and since this is mentioned down the list, and references the fiery darts of the evil one, it suggests maintaining faith in the heat of battle. 5) the helmet of salvation--you've got to MAINTAIN it. And 6) the sword of the Spirit...the Word of God--you've got to POSSESS it. This last is offensive and can be used ONLY as you and I possess the Word within. God help us to withstand in the evil day!
