I'm a huge planner and a lot of times, I really struggle with waiting on the Lord. I struggle with his answers to me! I can totally relate to Mary and Martha in this! They called on Jesus, but he didn't get to them until after Lazarus had been dead for four days. Lazarus was probably really stinking it up. But, it was all part of God's timing. I see two views on this.
1. Mary and Martha felt like they could call on the Lord. They had such a close relationship with Jesus that they turned to Him IMMEDIATELY. Hpw many times do I try to deal with things on my own before I call on Jesus? Yes, they struggled with Jesus' timing, but they called on Him first.
2. This was all about timing. Had Jesus immediately raised Lazarus from the dead, it wouldn't have been as powerful of a message. I think that it was also a testing of Mary and Martha's faith(v. 40) and those grieving with them.

I love Jesus' compassion!
