Do Not Deceive Yourself
Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.(KJV)
The Lord would have believers support one another when the events of life get wearisome. All of us have burdens. The Lord does not want us to carry the load alone. To fulfill the law of Christ it is essential we care and help one another. We consider our brother or sister's burden as our own. We feel for each other. Our focus should be outward looking for who we can help.
Pride keeps us from bearing one another's burdens. Many people regard themselves as more important and deserving of their own care, love and attention than to care for the needs of others. They think themselves something. Often times they think themselves too wise to fall into the sins others have fallen into. They could not be tempted like others. As well as how qualified they are to help others, to show them how to live. When we feel secure, and feel it is impossible that we will sin, we are in big trouble. Such confidence in ourselves can lead us into a downward spiral. We fall into sin because of our pride.
We all are nothings.... Yep that is right. Our mindset should be we are nothing. Others are the something we need to put before ourselves. How awesome would it be if we all thought of ourselves as nothings and others as something? We looked out for others not just ourselves.? Others were esteemed better than ourselves? We can longer deceive ourselves with the thinking that we are so spiritual to be bothered to help or need the help of brothers and sisters in the body of Christ.
Let us adjust our thinking of ourselves. Let us walk in humility ready to give or receive help from one another as we journey together to be the light of Jesus Christ to a hurting world.
