Ever notice that the fruit of the spirit is not the fruitS of the spirit? It's not a buffet where we can choose if we want love but opt out of needing patience today. Instead we'll take a double dose of...hmm, maybe joy? Yeah. What did you say? Self control? Oh no thanks. This is not how it works- the Spirit being in charge of my life means that the fruit of my life IS love, joy, peace, pateince, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness AND self-control. All of it. Not just some of it. If the Spirit is in me, I love more, I have joy even when the circumstances don't seem to be in my favor, I have a peace that doesn't even make sense at times, I am patient and content to wait, I am kind to those that love me and those that don't...and those I don't even know, I seek out occasions to do good, I believe God in all things, I am gentle and humble putting others first and I can keep myself in check instead fo flying off the handle or letting my emotions run wild. ALL of these things are present when we walk by the Spirit.
