For as long as I can remember I have known the pattern of God creating something and then declaring it good with the change to very good when He created man. It is only in the last week that that has become more significant because it was brought to my attention that man did nothing to merit being very good, as opposed to only good. Adam had no time to perform, make the winning shot, cook a four course meal, bring home an A on a paper, or come up with the next great Nike slogan. God's declaration is solely based on who He created Adam to be, completely separate from anything Adam may or may not do, say, or accomplish in the future. It is so freeing because we also are declared "Very Good" as His children and His creation regardless of our successes or our failures. He can see the real me and He loves me for who I am, even when I don't know who that is.
