Prepared for Duty
To those who have been given the ministry of teaching the Word of God, has already been chosen and trained by God to do so and to do it well. In Isaiah 28, the prophet reveals to us that it is God who instructs each man to do the job for which they have been given, for example, farmers: "Does the farmer plow continually to plant seed? Does he continually turn and harrow the ground? Does he not level its surface And sow dill and scatter cummin And plant wheat in rows, Barley in its place and rye within its area? For his God instructs and teaches him properly (vs. 24-26).." There is no college or seminary in the world who can make a Bible teacher out of someone whom God has not prepared to teach. For these men are already devoted to God and surrendered to the authority of Scripture before they lead that class or stand before that crowd of many or of few. He knows that that he is about to distribute the seeds of God's truth to men and women whom our Lord will use as witnesses in a world that hates Him because they prefer the darkness rather than light and it will be from there that He will call out His people.
No wonder there are so few in the body of Christ desiring to drink from the well of the Bible, because men whom God has chosen to teach the whole counsel of God are being replaced by those who can entertain or appeal to the audience's sense of humor, or build up the self esteem of the listener rather than point them to the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. Then, once they have put their faith in the Lord Jesus, they are feed through a straw of basic Christian truths and never enjoy the savor of the deep things of God for fear that they might be confused or overwhelmed by doctrine made unfamiliar by silence. Such teachers as these may be saved but they have not searched the scriptures nor God's will through prayer to know what it is He would have them to know as disciples of Christ. Yes, we must pray that God send teachers, but only those who can stand the scrutiny foolish men and can teach with clarity the people of God hungry to serve and worship the God who saves, seals and sanctifies His own in preparation for the glorious journey home. A few godly teachers can accomplish more for the cause of Christ than an army of poor ones. Pray earnestly for godly teachers.
