John 3:16 ASV

I feel like this scripture gets abused by Christians. As if it's a cheat code for life and once you enter it you have nothing to worry about. Like it's a license to so sin. You see people out there who are doing practically everything God says is wrong, and then turn around and say, "I'm a Christian. I believe in God." The word used for believe is the Greek word Pisteuo. According to the Strong's Exhaustive concordance this word can also be translated "commit". Which I feel agrees more with the rest of Jesus' teachings as well as the rest of the new testament. Jesus himself said the there will be people who call him, "Lord" but will not get into heaven. Looking at Christianity today I can see what he's talking about. It's not about simply believing Jesus was real, it's about committing ourselves to be like him. To take his teachings and apply them to our lives, and follow the straight and narrow path He has for us.
