Prevent Forest Fires
Remember Smokey the Bear? "Only YOU can prevent forest fires." That was his motto. It is true that it is up to each one of us to prevent fires. What about fires that come from our tongue? Can it be prevented? Once it is said it cannot be stopped. No matter how many times we apologize or ask for forgiveness the damage cannot be taken back. The best way is to not say it in the first place. A fire in the forest starts with a small spark and then spreads out of control if the conditions are right. James talked about a double-minded man in 1:8. This appears to be that same man in 3:10-12. The only way we can prevent fires is to know the condition of our own hearts. Am I double-minded? Do I bless God and curse man? When operating in my power the answer is "Yes". In Christ we can do all things. The operative words are "in Christ".
