Remember Jesus
This verse is one of the key verses in this book. And it sums up what Paul focus and passion was as well as what he desperately, with his final letter wanted Timothy and everyone to take to heart.
In such short words he sums up the Bible.
Remember Jesus. Forget about me, Paul. I will be gone but Remember Jesus. He is the Christ. He is the King of Kings. He is the one that matters. He is why I am suffering. He is what this is all about. Forget about everything else and just remember Jesus. When people die who are close to us, we always remember them. We remember the things about them, what they said, what they stood for, we honor their life. We remember.
He was raised from the dead. Paul highlights the important part of the end of his life. He doesn’t need to mention the incredible pain and suffering he went through on the cross, he just wants you to know he was raised from the dead. He won. He is more powerful than death.
He then validates all the Old Testament taught. There would one day be a King of all Kings descendant of David. He says this to all the Jews. This is the man you have been waiting for. He proves not just his connection to God being a man who could be raised from the dead, but his proclaimed throne that was predicted long ago by the same God. He says stop waiting for someone else to come and save you, he has already come.
THIS is my gospel. This is what Paul believed and preached.
Remember Jesus.
Maybe you haven’t remembered Jesus. Maybe you forgot how much he loved you and there is nothing you can do to charge that. Maybe you forgot how powerful he is over death and even more so over all our little problems. Maybe you are still waiting for someone or thing to save you, to help you through life. Jesus is the one promised. Maybe you forgot what the gospel is, one that you would die sharing.
