It's funny when we think our walk with God is proven by how passionate we are in worship, by how many verses we memorize, by how often we go to church, etc. All these silly outward things prove nothing. What proves we are followers is how we love each other. So often, Christians are the worst at this! Ugh! We sort of compartmentalize our relationship with God. By maintaining appearances and having a hefty prayer life we think that proves our spirituality. But it doesn't. What proves it is when we can truly love one another- be patient, kind, forgiving, unprovoked, pure, faithful, able to believe the best, able to put up with junk and being treated badly. Proof that we are growing in God is that we love well. It's awesome to pray for hours a day, but can you love that person that rubs you the wrong way? We should most definitely read the word and learn scripture, but can we forgive those that hurt us? We need to be faithful to the local church but can we deal with offense righteously and love those God has put in our lives. All the other stuff doesn't matter- the real proof is how well we love.
