My husband and I had a good laugh tonight. Our hilarious little 3 year old was "playing" a toy guitar and singing at the top of his lungs (as he often does). This is pretty normal at our house- this kid asks to listen to United and Tom Petty and Ryan Adams- he's the coolest kiddo. But what made us laugh extra hard was he started mimicking my husband. My man is a musician and a worship leader. And on a number of occasions, my son has, of course, watched him sing and play his guitar. Tonight, he started singing into one of the drawer pulls on the dresser like it was a microphone. He did it just like his dad. He leaned in just like him. He kicked his foot a bit just like him. He turned his head the same way daddy does. It was hilarious. (and for the curious, tonight's song of choice was "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer." Yes, we know it's April...you can't contain an artist!) We had a good laugh but it was completely precious because he adores his daddy. Right now, he wants to do everything daddy does. He copies him. Why? Because he loves him. We're in the same place as my little boy- out of love for God, we should be copying Him, doing what He did/does. We should emulate this Man that we claim to love so fiercely. Following Jesus is more than our status on facebook. It requires action on our part- out of love, we act like Him. We obey. We do what He says. Our love is proven in whether or not we obey Him. And this is in every area of our lives...we don't just obey in some things. We don't just slap a status up there and then live however we want. True followers do what He says, even if it seems no one else is doing so. I want to emulate Christ. Now, where's a drawer pull I can sing into?
