The myth of "Ungodly Earrings"
Growing up I always heard from people that the bible says that guys shouldn't wear earrings. I could never get anyone to give me a strong biblical reference concerning this issue. What I did get was the reasoning that earrings were a sign of slavery and as Christians we are free don't believe in slavery.
Funny thing is that when you read this passage that some people quote to validate their social preferences, you find that this is less an example of slavery, but a wonderful example of how we are related to Christ.
1. We are WILLINGLY Christ's servants
-1 Corinthians 4:1; Mark 9:35; Romans 1:1; Deuteronomy 13:4; Philippians 4:5-11
2. We bear the mark of servant-hood.
-John 13:35; James 2:14-26, Matthew 10:39
So I guess that earrings are more of a biblical symbolism of servant-hood towards Christ and less of a symbol of our slavery to sin.
I'm not making a statement for the validity of earrings. I'm just making a statement that you stop living your life to please God when you stray away from the great commandments and the great commission.
Matthew 7:22-23
Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
