Genesis 3:16 ASV

At the beginning of it all, you have the foundation for all the relational difficulty and struggle and misunderstanding and dysfunction that has happened since then. This is why relationships are so hard. The woman will greatly desire her husband. This is not a reference to sexual desire. It is talking about the deep need that so many feel the need to find fulfillment in a man, to find their sense of worth, their sense of well-being, their sense of value and importance and meaning in life in a man.

Conversely, the man, instead of giving that to a woman, rules over her. Men often use the woman's desire for meaning as a means to controlling women. Men can be dominating, controlling, abusive, insensitive, or emotionally distant.

This is the grounds for the relational co-dependency that develops between so many people. It is important to note that this is not God's design for relationships. This is the result of sin and the consequences of the broken relationship that happens between Adam and Eve in the Fall.
