The Breastplate of Righteousness

(1)Next we have the later part of verse 14 saying “with the breastplate of righteousness in place”. Not to be critical of any particular translation of the bible, but if you look at the meaning of the Greek words here, it would be more accurately translated as “having put on the breastplate of righteousness”.

(a) The Breastplate symbolic of providing for protection for your chest and stomach area which is where the most of your major organs are located – Heart, Lungs, Stomach, Intestines, etc – how many of you know you cannot live very long without these.

(b)The Greek word for Righteousness refers to the condition acceptable to God or the doctrine concerning the way in which man may attain a state approved of God, such as integrity, virtue, purity of life, rightness, correctness of thinking, feeling, and acting.

(i) How many know that there is only one way to be acceptable to God and that is through his son Jesus Christ!

(ii) This is reflected in:

1. Ephesians 2:18 - 22 (NIV) 18For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. 19Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, 20built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
