Proverbs 6
Proverbs 6:1-3
The first verse has 2 distinct references grouped together as one;
1. If you have become surety for a friend.
2. Stricken your hand (made an agreement) with a neighbor.
These 2 distinct references do not deal with "blood covenant" so much as they deal with agreements. The first agreement focuses on becoming "surety" which is along the line of co-signer with emphasis on Friend or "Neighbor" (not brethren).
The second agreement focuses on simple agreement made with a neighbor (not brethren).
Strong focus on keeping track of agreements that we have made. This verse is not saying to avoid making agreements but puts an emphasis on casual agreements and how to handle them.
The summation would be "becareful when you make strong agreements with persons of whom you do not know"
4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, 5 Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter,
The implication of this text (vs4), is not to procrastinate of delivering yourself from this situation. Verse 5 speaks of a needed deliverance to imply that one is already captured or "held" within a compromising situation.
Proverbs 6:6-11
6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard;7 Which having no chief,8 Provideth her bread in the summer,9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard?10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber,11 So shall thy poverty come as a robber,
This portion points the young disciple towards the Ant, to learn of leadership principles. The Ant has a built-in system which instructs the animal on how to provide. It can be safely assumed that when a person makes proper decisions to prepare themselves "for life". Whether it be a job, career, or schooling, this is something that God has put in the hearts of men. (vs7) The Ant is cited for not having a Chief or "ruler", and yet still being industrious. Doest thou needest a "ruler" over thee ? or art thou able to "judge" thy self in thy usage of time? Hence is the law of the leadership of the Ant.
Proverbs 6:12-15
12 A worthless person, a man of iniquity,13 That winketh with his eyes, that speaketh with his feet,14 In whose heart is perverseness,15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly;
This passage links worthlessness (deragatory note concerning person's character) to sin. Person whom makes slight gestures which have other meanings (his actions are not straight forth). Tends to imply that his calamity comes suddenly but does not give a specific reason or the type of calamity. The reason being, is that the sudden calamity is linked to his perverseness; because he is perverse (not straight forward); his own jugdement is skewed in that he loses the ability to forsee any imminent danger.
Proverbs 6:16
16 There are six things which Jehovah hateth;
17 Haughty eyes (Pride),
a lying tongue (lying to others),
18 A heart that deviseth wicked purposes (plotting)
19 A false witness that uttereth lies (manipulators)
This list can keep you in right relationship with God. This is a good list for someone to check their heart and see whether they offend God in any manner.
20 My son, keep the commandment of thy father,21 Bind them continually upon thy heart;22 When thou walkest, it shall lead thee;23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light;24 To keep thee from the evil woman,25 Lust not after her beauty in thy heart;26 For on account of a harlot a man is brought to a piece of bread;27 Can a man take fire in his bosom,28 Or can one walk upon hot coals,29 So he that goeth in to his neighbor’s wife;30 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal31 But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold;32 He that committeth adultery with a woman is void of understanding:33 Wounds and dishonor shall he get;34 For jealousy is the rage of a man;35 He will not regard any ransom;
Proverbs 6:20-35
This portion of scripture insists that scripture (like programming calls) must be bound (bind them upon thy heart). When scripture is not bound, we do not remember or recall scripture. Rest of passage deals with the number one issue which men whom do not bind scripture upon their heart struggle with; Adultery (which is another form of idolatry).
