I'm struck by three things in the verse.

1. Matthew says this is "a record." God keeps records. He remembers things. He remembers people and places and events. We tend to forget so much of our lives but God doesn't forget. He remembers.

2. "A descendant of David..." God has a plan. God always has a plan and He is forever working His great plans. When God called David out of the sheep pasture and started him on his journey, He knew what He was going to do in David's life. He knew that He would one day make David king but He also saw so far beyond that. He also knew that Jesus was come out of David's royal line. God is working all sorts of individual plans within His greater plans. I'm so thankful that my life is not some random sequence of events. I'm so thankful that He is working in His plans for my life and also that my life is working into His plans for everything else.

3. "Of Abraham." This reference reminds me of the promises of God. God does not forget His promises. He promised Abraham to bless him and through him to bless all the peoples of the world. God is faithful and when He makes a promise He keeps it. It make take some time to see the promise fulfilled but it will come to pass and you can count on that. I'm so thankful that if He promises me something I can KNOW that it will happen.
