Dying to ourselves so Christ can be manifested
It's funny that I've read this before and though of it in an other way, but as I re-read these two verse I realize that the intent of the author was probably to express how one must let his own sinful nature die in order to allow it to be replaced by the life of Christ, so that Christ may manifest himself through us. Whenever our sinful nature resurges, it creates a barrier that cripples not only our communion with Christ, but also our effectiveness as a witness for our Lord.
God give me the desire and strength to pick up my cross daily and allow my own selfish nature to be put to death, so that your perfect Spirit may not be impeded in its regenerative work.
