I'm not into the worship of community as is seemingly so popular these days. But there is something very profound about what Paul says in this passage. I don't think the church realizes the mysterious power that lies within true, covenant-oriented, Christ-exalting community. In this text Paul very clearly identifies a necessary avenue "to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery." And what is that avenue? He practically pleaded "that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love." There is something about community that has a profound impact on our spiritual growth. Sadly, few ever realize that truth in this selfish, individualistic western world.
