Have you ever struggled with insomnia, tossing and turning many nights, even though your body and mind are worn out, you just cannot sleep? And the longer your sleepless nights accrue, the more you value sleep and its solace.
Well, I am not specialist or doctor in sleep disorders; I am just a fellow insomniac who tries all kinds of remedies for those sleepless hours. I have found that only God can bless us with a sleep that is truly peaceful and restful. ‘Next time you lie awake, read God's Word. I love the Psalms. Try memorizing a verse a day — make it one of the last parts of your nightly routine — as it says in Psalm 1: Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked; or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord ,meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
Then your mind will be centered on the One who gives us that perfect sleep.
Psalm 3:3 But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high. 4 I cried out to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy mountain. 5 I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the Lord was watching over me.
