This verse starts out looking like all is well and everyone is safe...until a snake wraps around Paul's arm. The people were expecting Paul to fall over dead, but because God was with him and protecting him, no damage was done. When the people realized this, they assumed Paul was a god.

Paul was ready to minister to the people, and when the father of Publius was found to be ill, Paul prayed and laid his hands on him and healed him by the power of Christ. Of course, everyone on the island that was sick came to Paul looking for healing.....and were cured. What a witness of the love and power of God to this group of people.

When Paul and his group were ready to set sail again, the people gave them supplies and food that they would need.

Paul arrived in Rome and was a great witness to the Jews and anyone he came in contact with. He spoke the word of God with boldness and fulfilled his purpose by proclaiming the Gospel to those in Rome. Although not all believed, it is only our responsibility to live the Gospel and give an answer of the hope within us. The Holy Spirit does the rest, then it is up to each individual to decide for himself.
