The whole armor!!
The army of Christ! How many of us are suited and booted for battle? And those that are, how much of that armor are we adorning? We are given the very instructions, the key to warfare an yet we stand idol and wait to be entertained by God or by His vessel, looking to enjoy this life instead of looking ahead to enjoy the coming life! The word says, "Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness."
Let's begin here girded your waist with truth, that word gird is the same word we have for girdle. So basically to first put on the undergarment of truth, this is the first foundational piece of the armor. But let's take that a little bit further. We need to realize that this is a battle we are living in and the life of a christian is not just some lighthearted, scripted life. We are not called to be a fake people who mask our failures and problems from one another with some religious gar-gain. We walk around the church building saying how are you, as if it were a cure all greeting! We have become so numb to it that we actually answer the greeting of how are you with how are you?!? Is that really a response? Is that being girded about the waist with truth?
Absolute truth, now there is a concept for the Church. Christ lived His whole life in truth, even when that truth hurt, not only others but Himself also. His whole life was lived in complete exposure, vulnerability and yet these are the things we are most afraid of! We are in a battle and the devil is a lier! The word says the truth shall make you free, John 8:36. If we were just meant to live a "good churchie religious life" and do nothing else besides look good on Sunday and warm a pew and smile pretty for the people, than would He not have taken us to heaven the moment we accepted Christ as our savior? Truth, gird yourself with truth!
Then it says, "Having the breastplate of righteousness." Righteous is what protects the core of our being. Not our own legalistic religious righteousness, but the righteousness of Christ! For the Word of the Lord says, "There is none righteous, no not one," Romans 3:10;Psalm 14:1-3. There is absolutely nothing we can accomplish of our own efforts for the kingdom. It must be done through the blood of the Lamb, through his righteousness, or else we are no better than the Pharisees! I challenge you to begin to arm yourself for battle, pray this over you and your family daily, ask to walk and live in truth, then you will begin to be righteous, for He is righteous....
