Why did Paul use the word "shipwrecked"?

Build your faith on false doctrine, heresay, books (even books authored by great and godly men), church programs, opinions of friends ... and there will come storms in your life, seasons of living, and situations you are put in that your faith will not be able to withstand. You will fall. Your faith will not hold. And too often, you will get defensive and start pointing your fingers at others blaming them. You will blame the church. You will blame the pastor. You will blame the church leaders. You will blame the music or the children's ministry or the youth ministry.

Bottom line is you have not built your faith on Christ and His Word. Oh, you won't admit that (at least I wouldn't) - but that is the hard truth. You have not made yourself a student of God's Word. You have not pursued the basic disciplines of building a strong biblical faith - prayer, evangelism, tithing, serving, fellowship, study of scripture. When you do not pursue these, you will begin to rely on your opinion, the opinions of others, books by great men and women, the latest church program that fits your needs, etc. - for what and how you believe.

I have never met a Christian who has built their faith on Christ and His Word and has aggressively pursued the basic disciplines - who has created division by teaching wrong doctrine or behavior. Life storms and challenges come, and their faith remains strong.

Build your faith on Christ and His Word. Put it into practice through commitment to ALL the basic disciplinens. Then when the storms come, your faith and life will not be shipwrecked.
