Proverbs 9:1-12 KJV

vs.1-3 [1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.s3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,]
--The first portion of this scripture is presented in the past tense. The thought is that wisdom has already prepared these things. This combined with Chapter 8 and wisdom being before the world was formed tells us that a large part of wisdom is understanding what has been done (past tense) and the manner in which it has been done so that we understand how to act today. A good example would be a man whom wants to buy a car. The process is laid out, and it is up to that man to find out how it has been laid out so he knows how to act accordingly.

vs4-5 [4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.]
--The preparations refer to partaking of that which has already (past tense) been prepared. Christ in the last supper offered bread and wine for that which would (future tense) be done. We at communion partake of that which (past tense) has been done. A person whom is ignorant of historical events lacks wisdom. When people fail to see what has been done and how, it is a great mark against them.

vs.6 [6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.]
--Proverb changes its tone to instructing the reader. Notice the word "forsake" when referring to the foolish. We tend to ignore the foolish, but are clearly instructed to forsake them.

vs.7 [7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.9 Give instruction to a wise man , and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man , and he will increase in learning.]
-- The scorner and the wicked man are classification types that are used to describe the foolish (adenum from the previous verse). This verse is a strong template for choosing disciples.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
--Wisdom and Understanding are not measured by secular merits, but rather Godly Characteristics (fear God and Knowledge of the Holy) unless a man posseses these things he is a fool.

11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
--Speaks of length of days (enjoyment and fullfilment) and long life.

12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it .
--You are only hurting yourself through failure to follow wisdom, and by gaining wisdom you are it's greatest recipient.
