You cannot love your neighbor if you do not love yourself first. This self-love mentioned by the Master is not self indulgence. That is idolatry. Godly loving of self is when we totally give up the self to God. Then we can love our neighbors as we love ourselves. In fact, you cannot love your loved ones unless you give them up to God. That's loving other people as we love ourselves.
