How deep must Samuel's life that we don't see recorded have been for God to use him in such an intricate and detailed way? I'm not feeling a sense of envy or an immature 'aspiration' towards the 'level' Samuel's at - for it's not about striving, levels or 'man's effort'. God may or may not use us in spectacular things, but we are best place; best poised when we are in consistent proximity to His presence - giving Him what He's worth. Then, suddenly glimpses of Heaven, whispers from On High and moments of Glory become a privilege that we too can enjoy, or be entrusted with, just like Samuel.
Knowing how the story goes, it's a pretty amazing contrast how Samuel remains in that devotional situation, while Saul certainly something else!
