The first thing God apparently did was create the heavens (space) and the earth, including water. I believe this part of creation was only physical matter, not energy. It may have included other planets (matter), or they may have been created later with the moon (matter), sun and stars (energy). It seems that time did not exist as we know it until God created light, the first form of energy on the first day.
