Legitimate Authority - Part One

Leaders should be observed to determine if they have legitimate authority. We can recognize authentic authority by four benefits that comes to followers:
1. The Benefit of Power-One Greek synonym for authority is energeia, which means superhuman power. Legitimate authority above you will give you power that you do not possess on your own. Jesus received all authority. He then transferred that authority to his followers (Matthew 28:17-19).
The protocol of authority works through leadership, not around it. Leadership above you gives you authority to manage what is beneath you. He will back you up. When we are “under” the leadership (lordship) of Jesus, He works through us into the areas of our lives that he has placed under our management and protection.
Be careful when it comes to dictatorial leadership. It has no place in our lives.
Any leader who only has followers is a cult.
Be very careful when you submit to leaders who are “independent” minded. Who are they answerable to? How have they submitted their lives to governance? Do they serve under established principles?
