Jude 1:9 is a mysterious verse:
- It doesn't refer to anything in the Bible.
- The story doesn't even make sense to me. Why would an angel and the devil contend over the body of Moses? Is this referring to his body alive, or dead?
- I do think I understand the point, though. The idea is that Michael, one of the greatest angels himself, wouldn't even dare to rebuke Satan, who had fallen from on high. Michael submitted to God's authority as judge instead of taking authority upon himself.
- And yet the deceivers in the churches to which Jude was writing were blaspheming angels and rejecting authority, something an angel would not even dare to do.
