Does the Law Apply Today?
A question that is constantly asked of Christians is: "How do we pick and choose what Old Testament Laws do we obey, or throw out?"
The answer is simple, Jesus said in these verses that the law can be summed up and carried out by two points.
1. Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul, body, and mind. In other words, with everything we do it must be out of love for God. There is nothing more important than this one thing.
2. We are to do unto our neighbors as we would have done to us, love them as we love ourselves. How would you like to be treated? You should treat others the same way.
With these two points we find that the entire law falls under these two commandments. We don't have to offer sacrifice anymore, that has already been paid by Christ. But if we do everything out of love for God, and love for others, we will never find ourselves breaking the intricacies of the Old Law.
