At the climax of creation, God expressed His Creativity in an unexpected way:

The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. Genesis 2:15

Before sin, before the fall of man, before the curse, there was work. God made man and placed him in the garden to work. Form the very beginning, He intended for man to work. Before there was even family to support, God put Adam to work. It was part of His original Plan.

Is that a little surprising? We tend to think of work as being a curse, a consequence of sin. Sure, the nature of work changed a bit after Adam and Eve sinned. God declared that it world be a struggle from then on. He established a relationship between our effort and our provision-- a relationship that lures many people to over--work today. Despite those curses, God had the basic concept of work in mind all along. He likes it when we work. He always has. When our attitudes and actions are right, our work is actually very pleasing to God. That's the role of work in its purest from.
