Wealth and Happiness
King Solomon had seen and experienced it all in terms of wealth, and yet he gives a very poignant lesson here. I can't recall the number of times I thought and said, "if only I had a little bit more, I'd be content." Of course, when I did happen to get that "little bit more" I was never content because I was looking for the next "little bit more." Like Solomon teaches, it is truly a blessing to enjoy my work and appreciate whatever fruits may come of its labor. The ultimate sin in my previous way of thought is that I assumed to find happiness in something other than the Lord. Recently, I discovered that if my happiness is wrapped up in something other than Him, I was surely disappointed and unhappy in time. Now I find happiness in doing His work and praising him for whatever rewards I recieve from Him and of course I have yet to experience Him disappointing me. I assume Solomon spoke from similar experiences. Since, I don't expect or aspire to achieve his level of wealth in material goods, I know that "little bit more" will never be enough if that "little bit more" isn't faith and love for Him.
