Just do it
Scripture:
13 For merely listening to the law doesn't make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in his sight.
Observation:
There is a differentiation between the Jews and the Gentiles here. The passage discusses the Jews that have had the Word of God for years (Old Testament) knowing God's Law, however if they know but disobey they will be destroyed.
It also talks about the Gentiles that may not have the Word of God, or may not know it like the Jews. Firstly it says they also will be destroyed if they don't obey. But it further clarifies that all is not lost for those that haven't had an opportunity to learn God's Law, God's Word to it's fullest. This would describe new Christians who aren't strong in understanding or doctrine, but " show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it.15 They demonstrate that God's law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right."
This is not an excuse to slack off on delving into God's word, but shows that with those that are new to faith, there is some grace there. The Holy Spirit does the work of assisting them to know God's Law, and to live by it.
The passage is very clear though, listening but not obeying is pointless. It's obeying that is the important part. We can sit in church, listen to sermon after sermon, hear God's Word, but if we disobey it, there is no saving grace from listening to it in the first place.
Prayer:
God I want to be a doer of the Word, not just a hearer. I want to continually be living by Your Law, hearing Your voice, obeying Your call.
