Joshua 2:9-11 NLT

Scripture:
9 "I know the Lord has given you this land," she told them.

Observation:
Joshua was very sure that the land across the Jordan River was being given by God. God had spoken to Joshua (in Chapter 1). It was a fulfillment of previous words that God had spoken to the people (In Moses time).

Because Joshua knew that God was giving the land, the obstacles that he came up against were not a barrier. God knew that it would not be easy, that there would be challenges, but he told Joshua: "1:9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

When the two spies ended up at Rahab's house, that could have been the end of them. The Kings men were looking for them. But God spoke to Rahab, he spoke to a sinner, a prostitute. Rahab said: "2:9 "I know the Lord has given you this land," she told them. "We are all afraid of you. Everyone in the land is living in terror.10 For we have heard how the Lord made a dry path for you through the Red Seas when you left Egypt. And we know what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan River, whose people you completely destroyed.s11 No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For the Lord your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below."

How did Rahab hear from God. It seems to me that it was a mixture of a deep sense of knowing, but it was also from testimony of how God had brought the Israelites out from captivity, across dry land. The prior miracles of God spoke loud and clear to this woman. And she did God's work by hiding the spies and helping them.

Application:
To know where God is taking us, and what Giants he wants us to overcome, it is important that we remember what He has done in the past. What miracles, what path He has taken us on. By having a clear understanding of the direction that God has been taking us, we will have a clearer understanding of where He wants us to move to, and how He wants us to be "strong and courageous".

Prayer:
God though the promised land may seem to be blocked off by Giants and Challenges, we see how you have parted the seas in the past. We know that you are faithful. We continue to pursue the promised land knowing that "2:11the Lord your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below."
