Bitterness
This will be a "contribution" and a question for the community as well.
I guess the root of my opinion on bitterness goes back to Genesis 3:12 where Adam blames "...the woman whom thou gavest to me..." for his sin of eating the "forbidden" fruit.
My "thesis" is that ALL bitterness is at it's core directed towards God, and if we can come to the place of admitting that to Him and ourselves, then only can we continue to grow and mature as Christians. Again, All bitterness is directed towards God.
My dilemma is that I can't find a solid verse to hang this "truth" on. The verse in Genesis 3:12 is an example of Adam "blaming" God which would be step number one towards a bitter spirit.
Dr. Anthony Fusco says "that our root sin is pride. If that is correct, then many sins are in response to the fact that the Lord brought some undesirable thing into our lives. If that is true, then most of our sins are towards or in reaction against God."
His argument would roll bitterness in along with "most of our sins" which I would wholeheartedly agree.
My concern with the bitterness question is a result of watching how it takes root in my life and others, and becomes a "filter" through which we view everything the Lord, the brethren, or anyone says or does in our lives.
Therefore we become stifled in our maturity and I would submit, begin to BACKSLIDE on God.
I'm not sure how one would go about to comment on this but I would greatly appreciate feedback.
